METAL Season is here

We are in the METAL season. My massage sessions are naturally flowing with the endless question of "what can you let go of" - right now? In this moment, in the next -- this deep inquiry into the most essential parts of who we are. Being precise and precious about how and what is no longer serving us. Getting Marie Kondo about it. Sometimes this is a pattern we find ourselves in, like always reaching for everything with our dominant hand. What happens if you switch it up and start reaching for things with your nondominant hand? Simple starts.

Sometimes, this is a deeper inquiry that the METAL Element stirs up. As with all elements in Chinese Medicine Five Element theory, there are organs associated with an element. The two organs for Metal are the Large Intestine and the Lungs. The Large Intestine is *literally* letting that shit GO. Tis the season in our abdominal bodywork sessions to pay special attention to the flow of the large intestine. In Chi Nei Tsang we trace the Large Intestine’s function from the cecum to the colon, ensuring a smooth movement...

Emotions connected to Metal are grief/sadness and the Lungs are the protectors of this tender emotion. If you think about the structure of the lungs surrounding the heart, our seat of joy and love, I am reminded of a quote the actor Andrew Garfield expressed about his late mother.

"I hope this grief stays with me because it’s all the unexpressed love that I didn’t get to tell her"

-- that's a beautiful expression of holding onto grief in a fully embodied way. Asking the grief to travel along with us. Not denying it or repressing it, just allowing it to breathe both the pain and the love with each inspiration and expiration of our Lungs.
